Content Creators

Positions available: 6-10

The content team will write engaging and thought-provoking articles for the PPC content website and Facebook page. This may also organise crowdsourcing content from other university groups. The team will also be involved in the process of creating and contributing to a PPC newsletter. You will be led by this year’s two fantastic Content Leads, Paul Simperingham and Gabriella Brayne.

There is also scope in 2020 for you to help with the creation of high-quality videos for PPC. Specifically, we are planning on doing a 2020 Edition of our viral 2017 hit “NZ Politicians Read Mean Tweets”!

High Schools Coordinators

Positions available: 6

The civics engagement team will be delivering educational and interactive voting workshops in low-decile high schools. This programme will be overseen this year by our awesome High Schools Leads, Lily Sumich and Soomin Yang! We’re aiming to improve youth engagement with politics, and are looking for people with a passion for educating others!hscp

Event Organisers

Total positions available: 10

We’re looking for delegates who will be rotating and working with different teams through the year on their various events. You’ll also have the chance to work on the big PPC events that the whole Exec helps to put together. If you’re organised, friendly, and able to work well in a team, we want you!

Such events include:

Competitions

We have two competitions this year, one in each semester. Our first competition in semester 1 is a Policy Brief Competition, with semester 2 yet to be confirmed.

You will work with this year’s Collab Leaders, Dinuki Karunasekera and Na-young Kim. Your role will be to assist our Collab Leaders by:

  • Researching interesting and topical events to set the issue for the competitions
  • Developing/printing materials as needed
  • Processing competition entries

Forums + Mentorship Programme

The Tertiary Team will organise a mentoring programme to connect students with public sector professionals, speaker events and other career development initiatives. It also hosts fortnightly forums about different topical policy issues, open to all members.

This year’s Tertiary Leaders are Jonathan de Jongh and Lily Li. You will also work with this year’s Professional Development Lead, Tim Bradley!

Your role will be to assist our Tertiary Leaders by:

  • Researching for our fortnightly Political Forums
  • Presenting and facilitating the Forums
  • Forming relationships and contacts for the Mentorship Programme
  • Organising a Launch event and Closing event for the Mentorship programme

Big Events

With 2020 being an election year, we’ve decided that it’d be best for PPC’s large events to be the responsibility of the whole Exec – as opposed to just one team. We have several events lined up, including our Journalist Panel Event, an election-themed debate, panels on the Euthanasia and Cannabis Referendums, our annual Baby Back Benches event, and electorate debates featuring candidates in both the Auckland Central and Tāmaki Makaurau seats! There is scope for further events using your ideas!

Your role will be to assist our Exec by:

  • Getting in touch with potential speakers and MCs
  • Helping organise room/venue booking
  • Organising necessary material, such as printing
  • Organising catering, prizes and audience engagement
  • Liaising with other stakeholders, such as other uni clubs

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic and subsequent nationwide lockdown, we have decided to extend the application closing date to Sunday, April 5th at 11:59PM!
