Making its debut in 2018, the “Social Hackathon” is a 2-day challenge run by Social Innovation New Zealand and the University of Auckland Public Policy Club, taking place over the weekend of 11-12 August. The purpose of the competition is to provide a platform for students to gain experience in real-world problem solving and analysis, ultimately strengthening their understanding of the needs and challenges of industry.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The Social Hackathon problems will be based on five Sustainable Development Goals, with a different company aligned to each goal. The Social Hackathon will begin with the participants being presented with a selection of briefs by representatives from companies of different industries. In teams, participants will be assigned to a Goal based on their preferences and will then work towards preparing an in depth solution to the given problem.
PARTICIPATING ORGANISATIONS
Throughout the competition, participants will receive mentorship from SINZ, PPC, and the participating companies. The challenge will culminate in a series of presentations in front of industry judges. The following five, distinguished organisations will be working with us during the hackathon:
